From the Pit: Cut content treasure trove

In case anyone has missed it, the last few hours have seen one of the biggest LoK cut content reveals in 20 years, with The Lost Worlds, The Ancient’s Den, the Legacy of Kain Wiki and many others collaborating to delve into some previously secretive developmental builds of BO1 and SR1.

The BO1 alpha show some massive changes that were removed before the retail version of the game - with a wildly different world map, greatly changed area layouts, tonnes of new, unknown and changed areas, new spells, new sequences (including the long fabled Chess match), new dialogue and a host of new implications.

They’ve also got an SR1 beta where you can access the Chronplast vision rooms to reveal the first publicly revealed footage of an area of Kain’s mountain retreat.

So much to say it can’t be written here, so check out the links above. As a taster here’s the map of Nosgoth as it originally looked.

If you’re ready for a link dump. Prepare yourself for the onslaught: The Lost Worlds news round up can be found here
Ben has also started publishing individual articles dealing with the changes:

From the Pit: Baziel's Games of the Year 2017

This post originally appeared here.

Ok, so first free weekend of the new year. Here’s the games I played and loved in 2017:
*Assassin’s Creed series (Revelations, 3, Liberation, 4, Rogue, Unity, Syndicate),
*Darksiders series (1&2 - remastered editions),
*Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor,
*Antichamber,
*What Remains of Edith Finch?,
*Prey,
*The Talos Principle,
*The Turing Test,
*Brothers: Tale of Two Sons,
*Batman: The Telltale series,
*Firewatch,
*Journey,
*Legacy of Kain series (again)
*Tomb Raider 2 Dagger of Xian fan remake demo,
*Resident Evil 7 demo
*… And a special shout out to Persona 5 for having the most addictive soundtrack which I’m still humming even though I didn’t play the game just listened to someone else.
Gotta say I loved things like the open worlds of AC, the story and world of Darksiders (even though the game itself was so unreliable and prone to issues), loved the weird mind bending physics of Anitchamber, the mechanics of Brothers, the atmosphere of Prey and the creativity and sadness of Edith Finch etc etc
For the absolute best I’m kinda torn between two. I perhaps felt Assassin’s Creed Rogue was my favourite AC game and it probably edges it for the AAA games I played, with so much to explore and do in the world and with a plot that came back to match up with its previous games and nod towards the future - just a shame it was so hideously overshadowed on its release by the initial failures of its successor.
Not everything can be AAA though, and the game I’ve probably felt for most was the Talos Principle - a seemingly simple puzzle game that with a ‘what’s going on?’ storyline told in scraps that blossoms into a philosophical discussion on the nature of humanity and has a punch the air ending (if you pick the right one - pro tip do everything then go easy, hard medium in the endings). In many ways it’s like the opposite of my pick of last year’s bunch SOMA that leaves with the same 'that was awesome’ feeling - maybe don’t go so much into the DLC though.
For 2018 I’ve got AC Origins, Shadow of War, Hellblade Senua’s sacrifice and Evil Within 2 already queued on the playlist. It’s gonna be an interesting year.

From the Pit: Kain laments from the throne

Legacy of Kain legend Patrick ‘The Hylden’ Johnson is back with more epic Kain themed awesomeness. This time he’s created a whole cutscene to run on his brilliant updated models. Simply breathtaking.

From the Pit: Baziel's Games of the Year 2016

This post originally appeared here.

Okay so 2016 was not a good year by any stretch of the imagination, and with so much destruction ongoing it’s not looking great for 2017 at the moment either, but here’s hoping it’s picks up.

On the brighter side of things, here’s some of the games I played and loved the s**t out of in 2016 and my personal recommendation for best game:

*Batman: Arkham Knight
*Rise of the Tomb Raider (+20 year anniversary content)
*‘Nosgoth’ and the Legacy of Kain series
*The Vanishing of Ethan Carter Redux
*Lego Star Wars: The complete saga
*Sleeping Dogs
*The Evil Within
*Knight Squad
*Lara Croft Go
*Hitman Go
*Pokèmon Go (good to see AR finally took off)
*Grand Theft Auto V
*Soma
*Lego Marvel Avengers
*Mass Effect Trilogy
*Superhot (“the most innovative shooter I’ve played in years”)
*Just Cause 3
*Assassin’s Creed Series (upto Brotherhood)
*Resident Evil 7 Teaser

Some strong contenders, but my personal game of the year (or game I played this year) is….
…SOMA…
Seriously, i dont wanna spoil it or even know how to describe it - indie game? Sort of but not really. Survival horror? Sort of but not really. Action packed? Yes and No. Like Bioshock or Amnesia? Er kinda but also completely different.
What it is though is drenched in a brilliant atmosphere and a compelling story that sucked me in like nothing since Soul Reaver 1… and it leaves with a mind blowing existential crisis, that makes you question the very nature of reality and humanity. A brilliant little masterpiece from Frictional Games. Get it.

From the Pit: MCM London Comic Con October 2016

Might have gone to comic-con in costume. Okay my Vorador wasn’t the best - and barely anyone recognised it - but Raina’s Raziel killed it and was very popular

From the Pit: LoK Proposal

This post originally appeared here

So I finally properly proposed to my girlfriend on a snowy hillside
Since we’re both big LoK fans an LoK theme seemed appropriate.

If you’re interested the ring is an Ouroboros ring with ruby eyes from ‘ZpArt’ on Etsy, based on the Ouroboros imagery used throughout SR2 and Defiance. https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/185729772/ouroboros-ring-sterling-silver-unisex-4

The box I ended up using yesterday (top pics) is a photo ring box by ‘AmeliaQualters’ on Etsy which was customized using the SR2 pillars platform texture as a photo. (For some reason I can’t find the custom listings for the circular boxes anymore, but I’m sure they’re still possible… and obviously check any rights issue etc if you’re going to use images you don’t own) https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/271446101/small-wooden-ring-box-rustic-engagement

The bottom pics are from my first attempt last year that kind of fell through and went wrong due to me cocking it up… at least the box looked good though. That box was a customized wedding ring box by ‘PrecisionEngraving’ on Etsy which had a Reaver engraved on top to resemble the Reaver box used by Janos in SR2 and additional quotes from the series added in the Soul Reaver font for extra romantic flair (honestly so difficult to find romantic sounding quotes from the series that don’t come off as creepy). https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/190312589/wedding-ring-boxengagement-ring  The Reaver I used there was actually from the BBI Kain figure.

Oh and she said yes, so she’s now my fiancee :D

From the Pit: Soul Reaver storyboard

Here’s a glimpse of the official storyboard for the legendary ‘Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver’ opening cutscene.
Originally found in an article in EGM 115, this was pieced together by the fabulous Raina Audron (the captions are probably from the magazine and not official).
